VolksKraft Ethical Crafts Hub organized the first Art & Craft Market on 31st October, 2015 from 11.30 – 19.00 at Aree Garden, Phyathai, an art & craft market for small-scale local craft enterprises and social enterprises to meet with consumers in the city as well as to hold activities that stimulate the public’s appreciation of local crafts. This is the first ever event of its kind in Bangkok, with the key goal to promote a ‘lifestyle’ that promote local crafts. There will be over 28 shops of local craft and related social enterprises as well as craft workshops and a public session. The event also featured a ‘shibori’ tie-dye workshop with natural dyes, a workshop to handcraft accessories from handwoven textile and public session (in Thai language) that addresses the theme, ‘Thai Local Textiles as a Lifestyle Choice’. The session’s panellists included renowned personalities in Thai textiles design, academia, an acclaimed indigo craftsman, as well as a young Thai traditional textile icon.
